Wellbeing at Mullahoran NS: Building a Supportive Environment for All

Wellbeing in our school is dedicated to fostering each child’s social, emotional, and physical development to prepare them for life’s challenges. Our approach includes helping children develop self-awareness, ethical understanding, and positive relationships, building a sense of belonging to their school and community. Through values education, children learn to make responsible choices, understand their rights, and appreciate their role as active, responsible citizens.

Key Wellbeing Initiatives

  1. Curriculum Integration
Wellbeing is embedded in our Social Personal and Health Education (SPHE) curriculum, where children develop personal and social skills essential to healthy, supportive relationships. Programs like Weaving Wellbeing, Stay Safe, Walk Tall, and Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) are core components. Additional supports include Webwise, the Garda School Programme, and the Active School Flag, all designed to enhance personal responsibility and social health.
  2. Physical Activity
Physical wellbeing is a priority, supported by our comprehensive PE program, which includes GAA and gymnastics. We emphasize movement throughout the day, from active break times in outdoor spaces to in-class brain breaks like “Wake Up and Shake Up” and the “Daily Mile.” These initiatives encourage children to make healthy lifestyle choices and stay engaged.
  3. Mindfulness Practice
Mindfulness helps children manage emotions by teaching them to pause and observe their thoughts and feelings instead of acting impulsively. Activities such as journaling, mindful breathing, yoga, and colouring support focus and emotional control, which builds resilience and enhances their wellbeing.
  4. Collaboration and Celebrating Success
Each term, children participate in our “Celebrate & Collaborate: Success Sharing Session,” where they pair with peers to share achievements. This event promotes communication, teamwork, and a shared celebration of learning progress, reinforcing a positive school community.

Our Commitment

We strive to maintain a safe, inclusive environment that encourages every child to recognise their own worth and potential, fostering their growth academically, socially, and emotionally. Through these efforts, we aim to help all children appreciate their individuality and reach their full potential.Top of Form
