On September 3rd 1974 Mullahoran Central School was opened .It was formally blessed at a later date by Most Rev. Dr. D. Daly, Very Rev.T. Reynolds, Adm., and Rev. M. Mimnagh, C.C. It replaced three schools in the parish:

St. Mary’s N.S,
Kilcogy.
1884-1974.

St. Kieran’s N.S,
Cloncovid.
1885-1974.

St. Joseph’s N.S,
Loughduff.
1887-1974.

The teaching staff consisted of Paid Fay, R.I.P, (Principal) and May Fay who previously taught in Loughduff N.S., Michael Moroney, R.I.P, and Peggy Moroney (Vice- Principal) who had taught in Cloncovid N.S and Mrs Maura Fitzsimons, R.I.P , who taught in Kilcogy N.S.
